Silver
Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep
Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep;
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws and a silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.
Walter de la Mare’s poem fascinated me . I was in class 5 when I read this . I remember going to our terrace and staring at the moon and staring so hard as to get a suspended feeling – me a part of the universe witnessing the planets, stars and specially the moon. It was only logical for me to believe that if it pulls up water from the sea and human body is made up of water it must be definitely impacting us in some way. The moon has inspired writers and poets since eternity. I read about the moon and saw documentaries and It was much later that I realized that the moon has many colors besides silver. And not just that but the interplay of the sky and the moon creates its own shades and moods.
The moon in my world is an experience by itself – the romance , the shadow, the darkness, the light, the craters, the coldness, the changing aspect , the objectivity , the stance , the silver , the dust , the draw – just about everything about the moon is special. the moon is a The moon is evocative – he is sometimes a passionate lover who I could swoon over and make love to , she is sometimes a witch who draws me so much as to drive me insane, sometimes a friend holds me like a steadfast companion and even a priestess who soothes and heals me when I most need her to.
Moods and moons are glimpses of what the moon evokes in me !
